Minimum of $26,530 - Maximum of $42,290 Salary will be determined by using the Berkeley County Schools Service Personnel Salary Scale based on level of education and years of experience.
JOB TYPE DESCRIPTION:
A vacancy exists for an AU Mentor/ Aide.
Applicant's primary duties will be with AU Students.
Summary:
Assist teachers in the classroom with daily instructional and non-instructional activities.
The successful applicant will provide support and assistance in the areas of behavior management, communication, daily living, self-help, academic, career/vocational and recreation/leisure skills.
Toileting may be required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
Other duties may be assigned.
Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
Assists teacher in routine classroom operation.
Demonstrates understanding of student's disability; keeps firm hand and is courteous and fair.
Demonstrates initiative and creativity with students and their program.
Maintains classroom including preparing bulletin boards.
Attends Open house, conferences on a voluntary or as requested basis.
Keeps records, writes lessons on the board, and corrects student's work.
Loads/unloads wheelchair bound students on bus, and/or waits with students for transportation.
Manages and instructs small groups of students when the teacher is not available.
Instructs and demonstrates use of exercise equipment and production machinery.
Participates in physical activities, which are a part of the students' basic program.
Assists students in the restroom as necessary, and may have to change diapers and other hygiene related procedures.
Be flexible in schedule and activities throughout the day Help or assist with duplicating and collecting educational paperwork Complete necessary training and in-service as required by the County SUPERVISORY

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or
Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
State mandated competency exam.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students and administrators.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detail but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to work with emotionally, physically and/or mentally impaired students.
Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions.
Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
