Clinical Psychologist

This is the full performance level for staff psychologists.
At this level psychologists are licensed at the doctoral level to practice independently in the provision of psychological services consulting with peers and supervisors as appropriate.
They are assigned to any VHA program and setting, including inpatient or outpatient medicine, surgery, mental health, neurology, rehabilitation medicine, geriatrics, Vet Centers, and the VHA National Center for Organizational Development.
Staff Psychologists diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments, treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders.
Among the modalities provided are individual, family, and group psychotherapies, and other interventions such as biofeedback, psychological hypnosis, and environmental interventions.
They consult with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues.
Staff psychologists may be involved in program evaluation and/or research activities.
The staff psychologist holds a state license to practice psychology and has at least one year pre-doctoral work experience and one year postdoctoral work experience as a psychologist in the VHA or a comparable professional setting.
The psychologist applies advanced professional psychological diagnostic methods and evidence-based intervention strategies to a full range of patient problems in his/her work setting.
S/he has advanced knowledge of psychological diagnosis, intervention, and behavioral health that qualifies him/her to provide advice and consultation to professionals representing a variety of disciplines.
The primary job functions of psychologists at this level include the provision of direct psychological patient care, consultation services on difficult or complex cases, and education of staff and trainee supervision.
However, some psychologists functioning at this level also have research obligations, associated with a university faculty appointment, collateral supervisory responsibilities, and limited administrative/managerial duties.
Vacancies are in Out Patient and Mental Health Domiciliary (Clinic and Duties will be finalized prior to start of employment).
In this environment, the incumbent will be a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team with responsibility for assessment, therapeutic intervention, case management training, education and administration.
However, incumbent may be assigned additional responsibilities in other locations as directed by the Psychology Executive.
Additionally, the incumbent may supervise psychology students enrolled in APA-approved doctoral programs.
Assessment outcomes feed the treatment planning process which follows a recovery model orientation.
Interventions include both individual and group therapy with incorporation of evidenced-based practices.
Although the incumbent may oversee other professionals in a consulting capacity, he or she functions primarily as a member of the treatment team which collectively contribute to the therapeutic gains of the patient.
The incumbent is expected to promotes a psychotherapeutic atmosphere among the professional staff.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
