DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION:
Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
This position involves a multi-grade career ladder.
The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-05.
At the GS-04 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence.
You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-05.
Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.
This Health Technician position is located in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service of the Veterans AffairsMedical Center, Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Duties include but may not be limited to the following:
o Answers incoming calls, finds and relays accurate information or refers the caller to the appropriate technical personnelo Prepares toxicology referral specimens for shipmento Maintains specimen logso Receives all orders for testing into the laboratory, verifies accuracy and completeness of request and interacts with other personnel to correct discrepancieso Recognizes emergency situations and takes appropriate actionso Establishes priorities for emergency orderso Receives all samples for testing into the laboratory, verifies proper patient preparation, sample collection and sample transport requirements for all laboratory testso Collects urine specimens for pre-employment drug screen testing according to appropriate guidelineso Processes all specimens according to strict guidelines to ensure integrityo Uses and performs maintenance on laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, refrigerators, and freezerso Draws blood from medical center inpatients and outpatients for requested laboratory testso Observes and reports any physical or mental changes while patients are being drawno Assists in teaching laboratory and medical center personnel theoretical, and practical aspects of phlebotomy, specimen collection, and specimen requirementso Provides care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients servedo Performs other related duties as assigned Work Schedule:

00pm-10:
30pm Every other weekend evening shift.
Other hours primarily day shift with some evening rotation.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
